Photos and Video: Eidola, Nerv, Astronoid at the Gramercy Theatre

Daughter of Jay and I went to New York City to see some bands play. The Gramercy has a 650-person capacity, so uou can get so close to the artist you can smell their shampoo. Venues larger than that and you can feel too distant from the stage energy. Even getting squished in with audience members has an effect on your experience. Despite the chaotic progressive bent to some of their songs, Eidola’s fanbase was more encouraging than aggressive, so the live aesthetic was more like a summertime party than a football game.

First band was Astronoid. They were phenomenal and I can’t believe they’re not bigger, but we all know how that goes. Stargod has been in my ears the entire day, and it hits the Lydian mode so hard I became an ascended master. The two guitarists look like they might be Thor. Here’s a bad photo:

Second was Nerv. I don’t know if their name was a Neon Genesis Evangelion reference, but maybe. Another bad photo:

I recorded Eidola’s entire set, minus the encore. The sound isn’t great because we weren’t out in front of the house speakers enough for my phone mic to catch everything, especially the vocals. Dragon jacket?
