My friend NESMETAL recently released an EP, Upon the Precipice. Despite the awkward description of the style and genre (deep breath)—progressive guitarless chip-instru-metal—there’s a very obvious guitar solo on track 2 (deeper breath), “Turn From The Carcass And Vulture Cycle (And Love One Another, Forgive One Another)”.

I’ve had a couple of music theory professors who probably would love this kind of stuff. The vast majority of humanity is wired for something more melodic. But I did listen to the whole thing, and I’m still part of the majority on my music tastes.
Yeah, definitely not for everyone, so I can see why it doesn’t click with some folks. Like avant-garde jazz, there can be context that help people “get” it when the music itself feels nonsensical.
