Friday Night Video: Angel’s Egg Trailer

The timing of this trailer’s release is a bit serendipitous. A few days ago I came upon a different video (I think this one) with a few scenes from what I took as an animated version of Stalker meets The Road. From Ghost in the Shell‘s Mamoru Oshii, with Yoshitaka Amano having a hand in it. It makes sense, since the character design has Amano’s distinct aesthetic. I mean, just the unruly strings of hair alone are dead giveaways.

Sign me up; I’ll even put up with some mild nihilism without complaint. Daughter of Jay wants to see it as well. But where to watch it? It’s not on any streaming service, not on physical media, but I did find it on Dailymotion in decent quality. But then the trailer is published—I’m subscribed to GKIDS’ YouTube channel, by RSS of course—and Angel’s Egg will be in theaters in November. As much as it would be convenient to watch it online, I’d feel like a movie like this is done better justice in the theater.

  • Hey, a reincarnation of Arthur Blessit, but with a smaller cross. No? I’m wondering how much is foreshadowed by calling it an “angel’s egg”.

    • Oshii, the director, is not a Christian but is known for heavy use of Biblical imagery and text in his movies. So your radar is accurate. Would be interesting to see how he uses it here.

Had to look up Blessit. Almost forgot about him!
