A follow-up to I Got Hacked. One of the other issues with jaydinitto.com being a fully operational battlestation was a certain plugin, Display Posts, a fine little bit of code that you easily control a list of WordPress posts. It’s how I had listed out all of my post titles and dates on the front page. Unfortunately, it was crashing out the PHP further down the DOM, all the way to the footer. Enabling the plugin displayed everything as expected, but it caused errors when accessing the WordPress admin console. If I disabled Display Posts, I could log in just fine, but the front page would show naked markdown code.
What to do? I settled on just disabling the plug permanently, so now my posts are displayed with the native WordPress UI. I might enableit again in the future if I can figure out where it’s bombing. Bill, the plugin’s developer, de-registered it as an official plugin because of shady WordPress workings, so people have to install and update manually. Not a huge deal.
For a different sort of plugin, might I recommend Tommy and iheartblank? He helped me with research and tinkering around with files, domains, installations, etc., and without a hint of the grumpiness you might expect from a techie type.
