A ginko tree on Forbes Avenue and Smithfield Street:
The Citizens Bank Tower on William Penn Place, taken from PNC Plaza. On the middle right is the old Kaufmann’s building, with a basketball court on the roof. Bottom right is the Warner Theatre sign, which I believe has been there since 1918:
Fifth Avenue Place/Highmark on Fifth Avenue in the foreground, also taken from PNC Plaza. That yellow bridge on the left is the Fort Pitt Bridge. The roof and terrace of Three PNC is on the foreground left, and the black building on the right is Two PNC Plaza, the PNC Tech Tower, where my office space is:
Looking southeast on Forbes Avenue, from a terrace on PNC Tower. That tall fellow in the back is One Oxford Centre, the PwC Tower. “PwC” is for PricewaterhouseCoopersLLP. These corporations kill me with their long, ugly, unwieldly names. Sometimes they are short and awkward—looking at you, Acrisure, forcing your name onto the much more elegant and localized Heinz Stadium. Ketchup is much more fun than insurance, too. Anyways, I’m glad PwC didn’t put the full name on there, but a name like “One Ox” for the building would be much better:
Northwest on Forbes Avenue, also from PNC Tower:

While the taller towers might offer too much wind, I could wish that more buildings used their rooftops for public accommodations. I especially like places that welcome photographers. That’s some serious urban hardware you got there.
I’ve never tried asking to go to the roof but I doubt it would go well unless I worked in the building, or had a good reason to be up there other than photography. Maybe the admin for smaller buildings wouldn’t care much.
