Ubisoft made a good move getting a Anamanaguchi, an actual band who does this music normally, to do the soundtrack. The chitpune power pop style fits perfectly with the nu-retro graphics, gameplay, and character tropes of the actual game.
The track I have here seems to be a slightly different than the one in the game (it’s the track on the very first level, starting at :54 in the linked video). This one has guitar and some augmented drums; the one used in the game is stripped down so it’s more of a traditional chiptune song. Still a competent instrumental pop/rock song, either way.
I’m glad the copyright is such that they are able to play it live. There’s a few videos out there, but I really like this one where they play it in a comic book store. Crowded and sweaty and likely louder than fireworks in such a confined space.

I’ve heard a lot of chip music. This one strikes me as just okay. It’s very hard to get it right. One of the biggest tricks is finding or writing a tune that comes across well in that technology.
The one used in the game felt more “original,” and less like a power pop song with chiptune elements added over it. I like either way, but it doesn’t hit that way for everyone.
