Links of Possible Relevance, Part 37

The Great Myths 9: Hypatia of Alexandria
Though the topic interested me, I never bothered with Agora, since Hollywood would never get the history right. I don’t mind that when it’s a film based on history, but Agora was way over the line and took itself too seriously as something accurate. I don’t doubt some things in the film are accurate, but not enough for me.

The Safire Plasma Reactor
I barely know anything about this sort of thing, but the fact that this is a reproducible experiment, as opposed to just fancy inducing or hypothesizing, is fascinating. Also, whoever is running the channel needs to come up with better video titles.

100 Reasons Israelites Are White
Misleading title. To simplify the actual known history of it, the ancient Israelites were a deviation of the Semitic people living near Canaan on the Mediterranean coast. If the claims on the site are true, the lost tribes would have probably mixed in with whatever ethnicities were populating Europe at the time. Lombards? Franks? Visigoths? Someone smarter than me about this should chime in here. Either way, the site’s proposals are just number games, coincidences, plain out wrong or silly, with a few maybe reasonable ideas.

‘Look At These Dumb Israelites Who Keep Going Back To Their Idols,’ Says Man Reading Bible Before Going Off To Worship His Own Idols
Those dumb Israelites!

A channer explains TV psychology
Mainstream television news programming, especially new programming, does not allow the viewer to dwell too long on any one subject. Instead, the viewer has to enter into multiple “personalities” in order to understand the ideas that are presented, one after another. It’s a type of schizophrenia, and it trains the brain to think like a schizophrenic. It’s not a secret at all; I went to school for this and it is extremely well understood by producers.

How did Cuomo make $783,000 on memoir that sold 3,200 copies?
Bestseller lists, like the ones on the New York Times, are almost always faked or doctored in some way; they barely reflect what is “normally” read outside of writerly or academic circles. I don’t doubt that money-laundering schemes can play into it in some situations, but just going by tax records are misleading. Fancy bookkeeping can defer or advance payments to minimize taxes paid, like when you hear reports of Amazon “not paying taxes” for a certain year. Prepaying expenses like taxes is a thing and corporations do it all the time.

Future Library
I like the idea, although the site is way too overbaked for me to really peruse it without being annoyed.

When Wokes and Racists Actually Agree on Everything
That line about macaroni and cheese hit home, I admit, but I did not expect that ending.

Slick Shoes – Broadcasting Live
Glad they are back together. Aside from Strung Out, Slick Shoes is probably my favorite of the punk-meets-metal subgenre. Despite being middle aged (maybe? Ryan the vocalist was 15 when their first album came out), their innocent “yeah, life is hard but God is on my side…and also I like this girl” lyrics don’t seem too out of place.

Israelites: I’m not smarter than you, but it’s widely known that today’s ethnic Jews are not Hebrew people at all. Most of them are Khazars, as that’s the nation that converted to Judaism and migrated all over Europe, while the actual Hebrew people never left the Mediterranean Basin, absorbed into various groups as you suggest, and ceased to be Jewish by any definition. But, yes, the Hebrew people were originally from Mesopotamia. That site you linked bears the stink of British Israelism.

Future Library kind of terrifies me because none of us who are alive now will get to read the books. Long live libraries and printed books though, I guess? 😕
